Ever wondered about the nuances between our Sussex Sparkling wines from different vintage years? For the first time, we are excited to share an exclusive case containing our 2015 and 2016 signature sparkling Blanc de Noirs
Serendipity would have it that Rathfinny Co-owner, Mark Driver, dreamed of making an exquisite Blanc de Noirs from his personal preference for pinot noir grapes. Eleven years later, we’ve planted 167,000 pinot noir vines made up of 11 different clones originating from Burgundy, Champagne, Germany and Switzerland. What’s more, our Blanc de Noirs is now being served in top restaurants across the UK.
The 2015 Blanc de Noirs is the first vintage of our premium Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier blend, produced from grapes grown and hand-harvested on our Estate. This vintage pairs beautifully with the delicate and warming flavours of Asian-style crab cakes. The fruit-forward versatility also matches sublimely with richer dishes such as slow-cooked Sussex lamb. When we hosted a dinner at Le Gavroche, Michel Roux Junior paired our 2015 Blanc de Noirs with Dry Aged Duck Supreme, Figs, Black Cabbage and Port Jus. A delicious pairing!
Our 2016 Blanc de Noirs is the second vintage of our signature Sussex Sparkling. Released in 2020, this vintage was met with highly enthusiastic reviews from leading wine critics, such as Will Lyons (Sunday Times wine columnist) who described the wine as: “Decadent and World Class.” The positive reception in the press and among the wine trade and customers alike really helped to establish the Blanc de Noirs as the signature expression of our Sussex Vineyard.
Pair to perfection with duck rillettes or rare-cooked venison steaks. This sparkling also boasts enough depth to accommodate the hot and sticky notes of Vietnamese-style caramel pork. Alternatively, enjoy at home with a board of cured meats, hams and cheeses.
